One of the first questions seniors and their parents ask when planning a session is what to wear for senior photos. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be complicated. The goal is simply to choose outfits that feel like you and photograph beautifully.
As a CT high school senior photographer, I recommend bringing three outfits so we can create a variety of looks throughout the session. The exact number can depend on the package you choose, but having a casual look, a dressier look, and something in between usually creates the most balanced gallery.
What to Wear for Senior Photos: Here are 3 Outfit Ideas

1. A Casual Outfit

Start with something comfortable and relaxed. This is often the outfit seniors feel most natural in.
Jeans with a cute top, a casual dress, or a favorite everyday outfit can work perfectly. Casual outfits photograph beautifully at beach locations, open fields, or relaxed shoreline settings.
The most important thing is that the outfit feels like you.
2. A Dressier Outfit

The dressier look adds a little variety and elegance to your photos.
Flowy dresses photograph beautifully because they create movement and softness in images. For guys, this might mean a button-down shirt or another polished outfit.
Dressier outfits often work especially well in gardens, parks, or more classic locations.
3. Something In Between

Your third outfit can fall somewhere between casual and dressy.
This look often ends up being the most versatile and helps create balance in your final gallery. It gives us another style to work with while still feeling natural and comfortable.
A Few Simple Styling Tips

When choosing outfits for senior photos, keep these simple tips in mind:
- Choose colors that complement your skin tone and photograph well in natural light.
- Avoid busy patterns or large logos that can distract from your face.
- Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel confident. When seniors feel comfortable in their outfits, it shows in every photo.
