I am very blessed and lucky to live in a beach community. It’s beautiful here all year long, but my absolute favorite time of year is summertime. My neighborhood has quite the 4th of July celebration! Every house is overflowing with friends and family. Because all the homes are pretty close to each other, there is the feeling of a huge neighborhood block party. And I love every minute of it.
This year we had beautiful, warm and sunny weather for our 4th of July celebration. It felt like everyone was in the water! The past two years we had very large gatherings. This year we kept it to a more manageable group of close friends and family. 🙂 We spent the entire day eating, drinking, laughing and playing in the water.
One very cute, and possibly my favorite tradition my neighborhood has is it’s 4th of July parade. All the children in the neighborhood carry flags and walk down the street to the beat of an adult banging on a drum. As they walk down the street everyone falls in behind. We all march down to the flagpole of the American flag in one of the neighbor’s yard and we all sing God Bless America.
But it’s when it gets dark that the real show begins. My whole life, I have never seen fireworks like the ones we have here. There are displays at both ends of the beach going off at the same time, at Chapman Beach and Kelseytown Beach. And because we can view the Old Saybrook shoreline, we can see fireworks going off over there simultaneously, up and down the entire shoreline.
I hope you had a wonderful 4th and thanks for stopping by. <3
