I’m Linda Sobolewski, a Connecticut shoreline senior photographer based in Old Saybrook, specializing in high school senior, family, maternity, and newborn photography. One of my favorite things about photographing seniors is creating a session that feels completely personal.

Ella’s senior session is the perfect example of why I love being a Connecticut shoreline senior photographer. We shot this session at Hammonasset Beach in Madison, and we never had to travel very far, but by the end of the evening it looked like we’d photographed in several completely different locations. From winding paths and beautiful flowers to beach grass, open fields, and the shoreline at sunset, every stop gave her gallery a completely different look.

Connecticut Shoreline Senior Photographer Sessions Offer So Much Variety

One of the biggest misconceptions about beach senior sessions is that we spend the entire evening on the sand. While I always love ending at the beach for sunset, I intentionally plan my sessions so we can take advantage of several nearby locations. That’s what gives my seniors so much variety and makes their gallery feel like several sessions in one.

From the very beginning of Ella’s session, I knew we were going to create something special. We started along a quiet path near Hammonasset Beach before moving into colorful flowers, beach grass, open fields, and finally the shoreline just before sunset. Each location offered a completely different backdrop, which gave her gallery so much variety without ever having to travel very far.

Three Outfits Made Ella’s Senior Gallery Even More Unique

Ella was such a joy to photograph. She was relaxed from the very beginning, and that always makes such a difference. She trusted me throughout the session, was open to trying my ideas, and never seemed rushed. Those are the seniors who allow me to be creative, and it’s when some of my favorite images happen.

One of the things I always recommend is bringing multiple outfits, and Ella did exactly that. She brought three completely different looks, which gave her gallery so much variety. We started with a casual outfit along the shoreline path before changing into a beautiful blue dress that looked incredible against the flowers, greenery, and golden fields. For her final outfit, she chose a simple white dress that was absolutely perfect for the beach at sunset.

Each outfit created a completely different feel, and by the end of the evening it looked like we’d photographed several different sessions. That’s one of my favorite things about planning Connecticut shoreline senior sessions. With a little variety in outfits and locations, seniors leave with a gallery that truly reflects their personality.

Ending Every Connecticut Shoreline Senior Photographer Session at Sunset

The beach is always my favorite way to end a senior session. There is just something about that last hour before sunset. The light becomes soft and golden, the beach quiets down, and everything seems to slow down. It’s the perfect time to create relaxed, natural portraits that never go out of style.

Some of my favorite images from Ella’s session are the simplest ones. Walking along the shoreline, laughing between poses, sitting in the sand, and enjoying the moment. Those are often the photographs my seniors and their families end up loving the most because they feel genuine and effortless.

How long does a senior session take?

Most sessions run about an hour to an hour and a half. That gives us enough time to move through a few locations and outfit changes without ever feeling rushed.

How many outfits should I bring?

I always recommend at least two, maybe three, like Ella did. It’s such an easy way to give your gallery variety without adding much time to the session.

What’s the best time of year to shoot at Hammonasset Beach?

Late spring through early fall gives the best golden hour light, but I book sessions throughout the year depending on what look you’re going for. I’ll help you pick a date and time that works with the light.

Do I need experience posing for photos?

Not at all. I guide you through every pose so you never have to guess what to do with your hands or your face. Most of my favorite photos happen when someone stops thinking about the camera completely.
