Introducing to you, my 2021 Session Superlatives! Inspired by one of my favorite photographers, Lyndsay Hannah Photography, this is a humorous and lighthearted look at some the wonderful sessions I had this year. Be sure to scroll all the way through to see if your session is featured!
2021 Session Superlatives – Most Amazing Skies at a Session
Connecticut weather is so unpredictable, and 2022 was more so than any other year since I’ve been in business. Consequently, Mother Nature gave us some amazing skies. Therefore, I have a few worth mentioning. First, you may remember a period of time this summer when the wildfires out west produced these hazy sunsets, where the sun just looked different. The second was an evening session that we timed an hour before sunset, and the radar showed NO RAIN. So, of course, as soon as we started the skies opened up on us. We sat in the car for about ten minutes to wait it out, and were rewarded with a gorgeous, double-rainbow.
But the winner has to be a session last June, where the strawberry super-moon started to rise through pink and purple clouds towards the end of the session. We all couldn’t believe what we were seeing. (and I’m happy to report that this family now has a huge canvas of this image hanging up in their home.)
2022 Session Superlatives – The Hottest Session
If you know me at all, you know that I love hot weather. I live for hot, humid summer days here on the CT Shoreline because then everyone gets in the water. 🙂 But this particular session was different. This was a big extended family session, with some family members here from as far as Alaska, so we had to get it done. Since this was a beach session, we planned to start an hour before sunset. However, the weather radar was showing big thunderstorms moving right over us at that time, so we moved the starting time up by a couple of hours.
Well, of course there was NO RAIN AT ALL. In fact, the sun was out full force, and since it was late afternoon, it was about as strong and hot as can be. I actually had this wonderful family get in the water, so they were fine. But this summer-loving girl nearly wilted. Maybe I should’ve gotten in the water too!
2021 Session Superlatives – The Windiest Session
You can see there is a weather theme here. Didn’t you know that photographers are also like weathermen? The summer of 2021 did not have the best weather. We had a lot of rainy and/or cool days. We also had a LOT of windy days. I had quite a few sessions this past year, where we successfully battled the wind.
But the windiest was a high school senior session with the sweetest girl. It wasn’t just windy. It was also chilly and gusty. At times, we just had to wait and time the shots in between the gusts. This lovely, laid-back young lady was so poised, and handled the wind way better than I did, that’s for sure!
2021 Session Superlatives – Most Special Session
This was an extra special extended family session. This family’s first grandchild was born in Japan almost immediately after the Covid lockdowns began. These grandparents had to wait almost a whole year to meet their precious new granddaughter. It was such a special session and watching grandma hold her adorable granddaughter that she waited so long to hug gave me goosebumps.
2021 Session Superlatives – Best Light in a Session
We get gorgeous sunsets here at the CT shoreline. And if you’ve ever had a session with me, you know I talk a lot about timing the session for the best light. But the award for the Best Light in a Session has to go to this high school senior session. We had planned on ending the session at the beach as the sun was setting, so we started at her house. There was a gazebo in the backyard and the late day sun made the most amazing shadows. I asked her to lay down in it, and I got one of my favorite images of the year.
2021 Session Superlatives – Most Fun at a Session
We have fun at all my sessions. We play games, dance, sing and laugh. But the award for the Most Fun Session has to go to this Extended Family Session, with a big group of grandchildren who were all together visiting their grandparents for the first time in a long time. Growing up, they loved to play games of wiffle ball, so that’s exactly what we did at this session!
Of course, every single session has been incredibly special for me. I actually became a little emotional going through all the images from all the amazing sessions I had this past year, and remembering the moments we shared. Your special moments that YOU let me be a part of. Don’t ever think I don’t appreciate that. You have all filled my heart to the brim, and I am incredibly grateful.
Happy New Year and looking forward to 2022!
