How To Choose A Location For Your Family Photo Session – CT Photographer

Linda Sobolewski Photography

You’ve booked your family photo session. Great! But, where should you have it? Here along the CT shoreline, we are blessed with so many gorgeous locations for photos, and I have photographed at many of these places. But, before I share my favorites, let’s talk about HOW to choose a great location for your next family photo session!

How To Choose A Meaningful Location For Your Next Family Photo Shoot:
Ask yourself…what look and feel do you want your photos to have?

  • Do you like a more natural feel? This could mean a park with green grass and tall trees and flowers, or even an open field.
  • What about an urban feel? This could mean we go downtown to get photos near cool looking buildings, reflective windows, and metal accents. Or make it a little more vintage with wooden doors and historical homes.
  • How about the Beach? There are many beautiful beach locations on the CT Shoreline. However, keep in mind these sessions need to be done first thing in the morning, or at sunset.
  • Do you have any places that are especially meaningful? Many families have places where they spend a lot of their time together. I’ve done family sessions at vacation spots, local resorts, and backyards of the family home.

Think about your home decor.

Do you have a certain color scheme or theme to your home decor? When it comes time to hang your new family photos in your home, it’s helpful to have your family photos match your home decor.

Time of the session

Time can be a huge factor in choosing the right location. If you have young kids you may need keep in mind their nap times and energy levels when scheduling your session. Certain locations, like the beach, are usually scheduled at sunset. Late August and September the sun sets at an earlier time. If that’s still too late, we can always find a more shaded location.

Still having trouble visualizing what you want?

Head on over to my website and take a look around. Are there any images that jump out to you?
