I’m excited to share some of my favorite CT photography locations for both family and high school senior photography sessions. While I can’t guarantee exact replication of any location because of ever changing seasons and lighting, the following photo examples should help. They will give you an idea of what to expect at each location.
As you browse the locations, read the notes to ensure it’s a good fit for your family. Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have!
Hammonasset Beach, Madison CT
The Connecticut Shoreline is famous for its gorgeous beaches, and when it comes to photo sessions, Hammonasset Beach in Madison, CT is my absolute favorite spot!
This stunning location has it all—sea grass, rocky shores, scenic paths, and wide-open beach views—giving your session a versatile and natural backdrop for timeless portraits. Whether you’re looking for a soft, dreamy beach vibe or a more dramatic coastal look, Hammonasset delivers.
Best Time for Beach Photos
Beach sessions are typically scheduled at sunset for the most flattering, golden light. If you’re planning a session, here are a few things to consider:
📅 Late August & September: The sun sets earlier (around 6:30 – 7:30 PM), making it a great choice for families with young kids who need an earlier start time.
📅 June, July & Early August: Sunsets are much later, meaning sessions start later in the evening. If you work a traditional 9-to-5 and prefer a weeknight session, keep in mind that it may begin closer to 7:30 – 8:00 PM.
If you’re considering a family session with young children, choosing a date later in the season can help ensure a happier, well-rested little one for photos!
Bauer Park – Madison, CT
If you love open fields, rustic barns, and a peaceful, nature-filled setting, Bauer Park is a fantastic choice. This location is great for those who want a relaxed, country feel in their photos.
Why I Love Bauer Park:
- Walking trails, open fields and beautiful weeping willows
- Wooden bridges and a small pond for variety
- A rustic red barn—perfect for a charming backdrop
For a beautiful scene regardless of the time of year, this is my go-to location. It’s an especially great spot for fall sessions, when the foliage adds a stunning pop of color! But no matter the season, Bauer Park is always a gorgeous backdrop for your photos.

Chaffinch Island Park, Guilford CT
A true hidden gem, Chaffinch Island Park in Guilford is a beautiful and peaceful setting for family portraits. This spot offers a gorgeous mix of nature and coastal charm, making it a unique and stunning backdrop.
Why makes this place special:
- Park-like setting with open green spaces
- Scenic water views and rocky shoreline
- Marsh grasses that add texture and depth
📅 Because of its coastal location, this park is best photographed at sunset, when the light is soft and golden.

Founders Memorial Park – Old Saybrook, CT
One of my personal favorite locations for photos, Founders Memorial Park in Old Saybrook is a hidden gem filled with charm and natural beauty.
Why I love about Founders Park:
- Lush trees with soft, filtered light
- Seasonal flowers that add a touch of color
- A stunning stone wall overlooking the marina
This location offers a mix of greenery and waterfront views, making it an ideal spot for family and senior sessions.
📅 Best Time for Photos: Like any beach location, this spot is best at sunset, so pick your date carefully!

Harkness Memorial Park, Waterford CT
For a classic, elegant look, Harkness Memorial State Park is one of the most iconic CT photography locations. It’s known for its gorgeous mansion, lush gardens, and scenic ocean views.
What makes Harkness special?
- A stunning historic mansion with stone archways

📅 One caveat is that I recommend choosing this location during a weeknight. Harkness State Park is extremely popular and weekends can feel a little overwhelming. Still want a weekend spot? Don’t worry, we can definitely make it work.

Elizabeth Park – West Hartford, CT
If you love vibrant flowers and lush greenery, Elizabeth Park is the perfect CT photography location. Home to the famous Rose Garden, this spot is breathtaking in the summer when thousands of roses are in bloom.
Here’s why Elizabeth Park is a favorite:
