Let’s be honest—getting perfect family photos can feel overwhelming. You’re probably wondering what to wear, how to keep the kids happy, and whether your husband will actually smile for the camera. (Don’t worry, I’ve seen it all!) But the good news? With just a little planning and the right mindset, your family photos will turn out beautifully—natural, joyful, and filled with love.
Here’s the secret to picture-perfect family photos (spoiler alert: it’s easier than you think!)
1. Perfect Family Photos Begin With Your Clothing
What you wear in your family photos makes a big impact, but that doesn’t mean you need to stress about matching perfectly. Instead of everyone wearing the same color, think about coordinating colors. Choose a palette of 2-3 colors that complement each other (think soft neutrals, earthy tones, or jewel colors).
Most importantly, wear something you feel great in! Moms, pick your outfit first, then coordinate the family around you. And remember—comfy kids = happy kids, so make sure their outfits are easy to move in.
2. Connection Over Perfection ❤️
Perfect family photos aren’t about everyone standing stiffly and smiling at the camera. (That’s what school pictures are for!) The best images capture the love and connection between you.
Hug your kids, hold hands, give your partner a little squeeze—these small gestures create genuine, heartfelt moments that will make your photos shine.

3. Let the Kids Be Kids! 🎈
Worried your toddler won’t sit still? Don’t be! I encourage movement, play, and natural interactions. A little twirling, tickling, or running through a field often results in the most joyful, candid photos. Instead of stressing about getting the “perfect” pose, embrace the real, beautiful moments as they unfold.
When you get out of the car, I want you to be the happiest version of yourself no matter what your kids do. Kids look cute pretty much all the time. Parents with angry faces are not cute! Ever. The best kept secret to good photos: look at your kids and smile and laugh no matter what they are doing! I don’t care if they are running, jumping, wiggling, or yelling “poop” over and over. Pretend that whatever they are doing is adorable and you love it. Because chances are, if you didn’t feel the pressure of family photo day, you WOULD think it was cute/funny!

4. Timing is Everything! ⏳
The best light for perfect family photos happens during golden hour—that dreamy time just after sunrise or just before sunset when the light is soft, warm, and flattering.
Yes, I know it can be tricky with little ones, but trust me, it’s worth it! If your session is in the evening, consider adjusting nap and meal times that day so the kids are well-rested and happy. A well-timed snack break before the session also works wonders.
4. Relax and Have Fun! 🌟
If you’re stressed, it shows. But if you’re having fun, laughing, and enjoying the experience, your family will too! Trust me—relaxed families get the best photos.
Let go of expectations and focus on being present with your loved ones. I’ll take care of capturing all the magic!
