Family sessions at Hammonasset Beach are exactly what Connecticut summers were made for, and this one delivered in every possible way. I am Linda Sobolewski of Linda Sobolewski Photography, and I photograph families along the Connecticut shoreline who want portraits that feel genuine, alive, and completely them. This was one of those perfect summer evenings where everything lined up: pristine weather, a sky that turned gold on cue, and a family that was so beautifully themselves from the very first frame to the very last.

Two Sisters and a Summer Night
We started in the wildflower meadow while the light was still warm and soft. The two sisters were naturals from the minute we arrived. No awkwardness, no stiff posing. Just two girls being exactly who they are, laughing together, chasing each other through the tall grass, and completely at ease. That is always what I am looking for. Real moments between real people. And this family had them in abundance.
The parents were just as wonderful. Present, warm, and so clearly in love with their girls and with each other. My job that evening was simply to stay out of the way of the magic and make sure I caught it all

Family Sessions at Hammonasset Beach: When the Light Goes Gold
When we moved from the meadow down to the shoreline, the Connecticut sky did something extraordinary. The sun dropped toward the water and turned everything amber and pink. One of the girls ran straight into the waves while dad lifted the other into the air. Mom pulled her close and laughed. The whole beach glowed behind them.
Family sessions at Hammonasset Beach have a quality that is hard to find anywhere else in Connecticut. The sea grass dunes, the open stretch of sand, the way the sunset light bounces off the Long Island Sound and wraps around everyone in it. It creates portraits that feel timeless rather than posed. These are not just photos. They are proof that this summer happened, that this family was here, that these girls were exactly this age on exactly this night.

Why Hammonasset Is One of My Favorite Locations
Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison, Connecticut gives families two completely different backdrops in one session. We captured soft, dreamy portraits in the wildflower field and then brought the same energy down to the shoreline for the full sunset. The result is a gallery with real depth and variety, not ten versions of the same pose in the same spot.
I guide every family through the session from start to finish so no one has to figure out where to stand or what to do next. That is my job. Your job is to show up as yourselves and let me take care of the rest. This family did exactly that, and the results speak for themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are family sessions at Hammonasset Beach like? A: Sessions take place during the golden hour window, roughly one to two hours before sunset. We move through multiple locations within the park including the wildflower meadow and the shoreline. I guide your family through every pose and transition so the whole thing feels relaxed and natural, not staged or stressful.
Q: When is the best time to book a Connecticut shoreline family session? A: Summer and early fall are the most popular seasons and spots fill up quickly. I recommend reaching out at least six to eight weeks before the date you have in mind.
Q: What should my family wear for beach portraits in Connecticut? A: Coordinated but not matching works best. Soft tones like white, cream, pale blue, and light linen photograph beautifully against the sea grass and sand. Avoid busy patterns or neon. Bare feet on the shoreline always look amazing.
Q: How long is a family session? A: Most sessions run 60 to 90 minutes. That gives us time to move through a few locations and capture individual portraits, sibling shots, and full family images without anyone feeling rushed.
Q: How do we receive our photos after the session? A: Your finished gallery is delivered through an online gallery within a few weeks of your session. From there you can download images, order prints, and share the link with family.
