As a Connecticut High School Senior photographer, one of my favorite things to do is to capture senior photos at the beach on the CT shoreline. It is my most requested location for seniors. Families too! We have so many beautiful beaches here along the CT shoreline. It’s easy to see why senior photos at the beach in CT are so popular.
To make sure your senior photos come out amazing, there are a few things to consider!
5 Tips For The Best Senior Photos at the Beach
1. Choose the right beach location.
As beautiful as all our CT shoreline beaches are, some are better than others for the best senior photos. The best beach locations offer a variety of backdrops. Yes, the beach is what we are all here for, but the best senior portraits taken at the beach also include things like beach grasses, logs and rocks to sit on, and trees for shade.
2. Choose the right time of day.
Choosing the right time of day for your senior photo session at the beach is critical and can make all the difference in the world! If you take your senior photos right in the middle of a bright and sunny day, you may have shadows on your face, and squinty eyes from the overhead sun. If it’s an overcast day and you go later in the day, your photos may come out surprisingly dark.
3. Choose the right outfits.
- The most important tip for outfits for a senior beach session is to choose something you are comfortable in. You’ll want outfits that you are able to do a variety of poses in. (sitting, twirling) Being comfy not only makes it more fun, but your confidence will shine through in your photos.
- Neutral colors are great, but be sure to add pops of color in there too!
- Girls look great in flow-y sundresses. Boys look great in khaki pants and solid colored t-shirt or polo shirt.
- Don’t forget shoes! Wear something comfortable for the beach, or consider just going barefoot!

4. Be prepared.
It’s great to have that wind-blown hair look, but be sure to bring a brush or comb. It can also be buggy at the beach, so bug spray is helpful. Having a parent or friend there for support is also super helpful.
5. Choose a professional photographer who specializes in seniors!
This should probably the first tip, so it’s the most important, and the one that can make all the difference between average senior photos and amazing senior photos!
A professional photographer will:
- know the best beach locations.
- know the best time of day for your senior photos session at the beach.
- offer outfit tips and feedback.
- make sure you have everything you need to be prepared!

Let’s book your Senior Portrait Session and start planning for some amazing photos!
My weekends book in advance, so if a senior is limited to a weekend, booking in the spring (for a summer or fall portrait session) is important. Either way, the sooner we get you on the calendar, the sooner we can start planning the details.
