You’ve booked your senior photo session. Great! But, where should you have it? Here along the CT shoreline, we are blessed with so many gorgeous locations for photos, and I have photographed at many of these places. But, before I share my favorites, let’s talk about HOW to choose a great location for your next family photo session!

How To Choose A Meaningful Location For Your Senior Photo Shoot:
Ask yourself…what look and feel do you want your photos to have?

  • Do you like a more natural feel? This could mean a park with green grass and tall trees and flowers, or even an open field.
  • What about an urban feel? This could mean we go downtown to get photos near cool looking buildings, reflective windows, and metal accents. Or make it a little more vintage with wooden doors and historical homes.
  • How about the Beach? There are many beautiful beach locations on the CT Shoreline. Beach photos are usually done as sunset. Late August/September the sun sets around 6:30 to 7:30pm. June, July and early August sessions would start pretty late!
  • Do you have any places that are especially meaningful? Many high school seniors have places where they spend a lot of their time together. I’ve done senior sessions at vacation spots, local resorts, and backyards of the family home.

Time of year you have booked your senior session.

The time of year can be a huge factor in choosing the right location. If you have your heart set on a beach session, doing that in June through the first half of September is much better. By late September and into October, it tends to get windy at the beach. An urban or park setting might be a better idea.

Another thing to remember is that specific locations, like the beach, are usually scheduled at sunset. Late August and September, the sun sets at an earlier time, so that would mean your session would also start earlier.
