With just a few weeks to go until the big day, I thought I’d share some of my favorite gift ideas for this year.  I know all too well how hard it can be to find gifts that are truly enjoyed, and especially remembered.

An Experience.

By far, this is my favorite gift idea, and there are so many things you can do for this. For example, last year I gifted my whole family tickets to a Broadway play in New York. Personally, I hadn’t been to a broadway show in many years, so this was a big treat for me and the rest of my family. We has such a great time taking the train and seeing the show together as a family.

One year, my daughters treated me to a cooking class one time at Weekend Kitchen, in Essex CT. Another time we did a candle making class at a small shop near where they live in Boston. Both of those were local events, that supported our local small businesses.

Shop Small!

Of course being a small business owner, I feel very passionate about supporting our local businesses. There are so many great local businesses to support! Here in Old Saybrook there are so many unique retail shops and restaurants mixed with familiar favorites to meet every need. Here a few that come to mind, that I highly recommend!

• For entertainment there is The Kate in downtown Old Saybrook. This place has fantastic concerts, musicals, and shows. The Kate is a CT Shoreline icon.
• For something to eat get a gift certificate to the brand new Garganos Pasta and Italian Market. They offer house-made sauces and freshly produced pasta.
• My husband and I love Sip Wine Bar. They have fabulous wine and an absolutely delightful menu! Besides purchasing a gift card, you can also get a wine club subscription here.
• For all things nautical, preppy and fun, check out The Coral Crab. I met the owner this year when I photographed her high school senior!

There are so many others along the CT shoreline, so remember to shop small this year!

Family photos are always cherished. Most likely, the ones you have hanging in your home now make you feel happy just by looking at them. Family photos should be updated at least every couple of years to preserve these moments in time.
