Late last month I had the honor of doing a beautiful, light-filled family photo session at Bauer Park in Madison CT, for my latest project: Every Family is Beautiful.
What is the “Every Family is Beautiful” Project?
Social media often portrays one type of family – white, neuro-typical, able-bodied, cis-gendered, heteronormative families with 2 kids (one boy and one girl, of course). Of course, not everybody fits into this “box”, and therefore sends a terrible message. All families are beautiful and it’s always my mission to make them feel like they are.
The ‘Every Family is Beautiful’ Project, founded by Massachusetts photographer Lyndsay Hannah Photography, was created to help change the narrative about what ‘beauty’ looks like, by offering a set number of free photo sessions to capture a family’s unique story.
Bauer Park Photo Session
I met up with Rebecca and her sweet boy on a gorgeous evening at Bauer Park with pretty golden light, for their family photo session. This adorable 3-year-old boy was personable and so funny! Whenever I asked him to do something, he would excitedly exclaim, “OK!”
I was also in awe of the sweet, nurturing relationship mom had with her little boy. Rebecca says of her little family, “My family structure is very different from the norm. As a young, single mother I put a lot of pressure on myself to make sure my son is happy and healthy.”
The pretty golden late afternoon light had a little bit of a magical feel to it. We explored all over the park, playing games and having fun. It was very hard for me to narrow down my favorites from this session! I hope you enjoy taking a peek at my time with this beautiful family!
