I’m excited to share some of my favorite CT photography locations for both family and high school senior photography sessions. While I can’t guarantee exact replication of any location due to ever changing seasons and lighting, the following photo examples should help give you an idea of what to expect at each location.
As you browse the locations, read the notes to make sure it’s a good fit for your family, and feel free to reach out with any questions you may have!
Hammonasset Beach, Madison CT
The CT Shoreline is know for it’s gorgeous beaches, and Hammonasset Beach in Madison, CT is my absolute favorite beach for photo sessions. It has everything – sea grass, rocks, paths. You can get a very versatile look for your portrait session.
Beach photos are usually done as sunset. If you have young kids you’ll want to be picky about the date. Late August/September the sun sets around 6:30 to 7:30pm. Want a weeknight session that won’t interfere with your 9 to 5? June, July and early August sessions start pretty late!
Bauer Park, Madison CT
Bauer Park in Madison, CT is by far the most versatile location. It features a rustic barn, a wooden path, stunning foliage in the fall, beautiful weeping willows, a pond, and even a covered bridge.
If you want flexibility in time of day, or a beautiful scene regardless of time of year, this is my go-to location.
Chaffinch Island Park, Guilford CT
A hidden gem, Chaffinch Island Park in Guilford, CT is a beautiful spot for your family’s portraits. With it’s park-like setting, view of the water, and a marsh, this location offers a unique backdrop.
Like any beach location, this spot is best at sunset, so pick your date carefully!
Founders Memorial Park, Old Saybrook CT
A personal favorite location for photos, Founders Park in Old Saybrook, CT is a true hidden gem. Lots of trees with pretty light filtering through, flowers, and a stone wall overlooking the Old Saybrook marinas, all making for a beautiful backdrop for a family photoshoot.
Sessions here are best when done at sunset.
Harkness Memorial Park, Waterford CT
Harkness State Park in Waterford, CT is a gorgeous park that has everything to make your family session truly stand out, and should always be considered as a possible location for a photo session. There is a beautiful 1900-era mansion to explore, with extensive gardens and hidden paths, as well as a beach. The mansion, gardens and beach all offer a great backdrop for photos.
One caveat is that I recommend choosing this location during a weeknight. Harkness State Park is extremely popular and weekends can feel a little overwhelming. Still want a weekend spot? Don’t worry, we can definitely make it work.
